Total Community Benefit Exceeded $852.3 Million in 2024
BIRMINGHAM, AL (March 28, 2025) – Grandview Health provided care to thousands of area residents in 2024, with 702,600 patient encounters across its network of physician clinics and other outpatient sites of care. In addition to delivering safe, quality, compassionate healthcare, the health system is helping those in need, supporting charitable organizations and contributing to the area economy. In its most recent Community Benefit Report, Grandview’s impact totaled an estimated $852.3 million in 2024.
“Our work to grow and enhance the medical services we provide is ongoing, as we continuously improve our safety and quality and support access to healthcare for our community,” said Daniel McKinney, chief executive officer of Grandview Health. “From providing care to our most vulnerable residents to supporting local charitable organizations, we are proud to make an impact on the health, well-being and quality of life in Central Alabama.”
Grandview Medical Center’s emergency room provides lifesaving, medically necessary care at more than 66,600 patient encounters each year, treating all patients regardless of their ability to pay. In 2024, Grandview provided $202.2 million in charity and uncompensated care and provided resources to help patients in need secure medications and medical support devices.
The health system and its employees also support local organizations that make a difference, especially those addressing social determinants of health. Through service projects such as the annual Jars of Love Peanut Butter drive for the Community Food Bank of Central Alabama and Grace Klein Community, and contributions to charitable organizations such as MPower Ministries, Bundles of Hope and Alzheimer’s of Central Alabama, Grandview gives back to the community throughout the year.
To enhance patient care and expand healthcare access, Grandview is investing in medical services, facilities and technologies. Capital projects in 2024 totaled $5 million and included the addition of 10 treatment rooms in our Emergency Department. The completion of this project brings the total number of treatment rooms to 32. Construction also began on the Women’s Services unit to add 10 additional postpartum beds to accommodate future planned growth. This is the third expansion of this department since the hospital opened in 2015.
The hospital also took steps to strengthen its surgical services acquiring its 7th robotic surgical system and another three for joint replacement surgery. The GI lab added new fluoroscopy technology, for advanced endoscopy procedures, that uses artificial intelligence to reduce radiation exposure to patients and staff.
During 2024, over 6,000 cardiac cath and EP procedures were performed. Milestones included the 1,000th minimally invasive implant for patients with non-valvular AFib, 200th mitral valve repair procedure, and the launch of pulse field ablation technology for EP cases.
“We are strategically applying our resources to help area residents have access to the care they need close to home,” said McKinney. “These investments, along with our outstanding medical staff and employees, support our delivery of high quality medical care and services for a positive patient experience.”
Grandview Health is one of the community’s larger employers with a payroll of $272 million. Support for the future healthcare workforce includes training the next generation of medical professionals. Grandview serves as the teaching hospital for graduate medical education, training approximately 100 residents in the internal medicine, diagnostic radiology, general surgery, and transitional year programs. The hospital also works with 24 undergraduate nursing academic programs across the state, hosting more than 250 senior nursing preceptor students and over 105 different nursing clinical groups.
Since 2016, the hospital has collaborated with Hoover City Schools and Riverchase Career Connection Center (RC3) to serve as a clinical rotation site for graduating high school seniors.
In addition to supporting the local economy through job creation, Grandview paid $49.7 million in taxes in 2024, monies that support local infrastructure and civic resources.
